My name is "Lager".

Did you know we like beer around here? Especially, well crafted micro brews, and home brew of course. Mr. Lanners was a professional brewer for many years. He is occasionally persuaded to brew with some of his friends, and his home brew is mighty tasty. Like my own kitchen pursuits of pickles, jams, and jellies these are precious foodstuffs crafted with loving care. Anyone who has cracked open a jar of strawberry jam in the depths of a Minnesota winter knows you can taste the early summer sun.

When Mr. Lanners and I decided to add some yarn to our booth at shows we decided we wanted something different. Something like porcelain, something that’s precious, something that’s a treat to play with. This silk fits the bill. Available in both DK, and lace weight. Bright, clear, semi-solid colors that go well with that other thing we do around here. The name was just inevitable.

Here we are again in Maryland. It’s late, and I really should be asleep as the melee that is The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival begins early tomorrow. I’m fortunate to have a great group of women helping me again this year and set up was a breeze. Nice to have ten hands to help with the work. Lil’s here, so the occasional ratchet was thrown into the mix, but it really was a very relaxed set up. We actually had time to wander around the fairgrounds before the show begins, a true rarity. One of the job perks. It’s so nice to see familiar faces, new things, and see the great random animal, especially without the crowds. This wee bottle lamb was helping it’s caretaker put together spinning wheels. Well, until we showed up and had to pet it. Seriously. Ah- dorable. If you’re in the area, stop by. I’m in building #2, booth number 8. Here’s a link to the festival map so you can plan your route!

Things are a buzz here getting ready for this weekends show. I’m very fortunate to live in a place with such an active guild. Each year the Minnesota Knitter’s Guild brings instructors from far and wide to teach at their event, Yarnover. This year the guild members have brought compiled a great group. Meg Swansen, Amy Dejten, Lucy Neatby, Gayle Roehm, Ginger Luters, Susanna Hansson, Margaret Fisher, Jared Flood, Edie Eckman, Franklin Habit, Judy Pascal, Lily Chin, Beth Brown-Reinsel, Cookie A., Carol Rhoades , Romi Hill and the keynote speaker Cat Bordhi. Whew, I wish I had time to take a class. It’s great fun to see all the knitters after a long winters hibernation. Even if you’re not taking a class stop by the marketplace.

I’m very excited to have a dear friend joining me this year, Chris of Briar Rose Fibers. We met at a sheep and wool event a few years ago and became fast friends. We see each other at “work” when we are at Fiber Festivals and shows, but don’t often have time to just play. Chris is making the journey from Michigan, to take a class, and is coming early to make a mini vacation of it! She couldn’t come to a knitting event and not bring her goodies along. So, there will be a “Taste of Briar Rose Fibers” at my booth this Saturday at Yarnover. So, check out your pattern stash, and queue on Ravelry. Perhaps you have a project that could use a little Briar Rose?
